There are many species of fly, and some have extremely short life spans, but the ones most people are familiar with (house flies, bottle flies, mosquitoes, etc) usually live at least 1 week to 2 months, depending on the species. And that lifespan is just as adults. If you factor in the time they spend as a larva and pupa it's even longer.
Mayflies only live 16-24 hours but common house flies live 1-2 months or so. And gnats only live for a week or more, also there is many flies such as mayflies, dragonflies, damselflies, stoneflies, whiteflies, fireflies, alderflies, dobsonflies, snakeflies, sawflies, caddisflies, and scorpionflies. there are 240,000 species of mosquitoes, gnats, midges and others, although under half of these (about 120,000 species) have been described.

Really interesting. This knowledge will help me to make understand those who use to kill insects using insecticides.
